The Cannabis Diaries and the web-site Talking About
Cannabis
‘The Cannabis Diaries’ were originally published on the
web-site www.talkingaboutcannabis.com, which Debra set
up in December 2006, to help support and inform families
who were struggling, like she was, with a cannabis user
in their midst. Not being able to find support for her
family or her son, she decided to take matters into her
own hands and begin the site.
After extracts of the on-line blog were published in the
national press (Guardian, Daily Mail) in 2007 there was
huge national, and international, response and acclaim.
A parental action group was formed immediately and a
campaign was launched. This was primarily to raise
awareness of the growing problem of cannabis use among
the young in the UK, and to lobby Government to help.
The parents’ group became a limited company and
registered charity, of which Debra was Director until
2009. Cannabis was restored to its Class B legal status,
in January 2009 (after five years of being downgraded to
Class C)
Debra is currently writing the sequel to the Diaries –
‘The Cannabis Diaries Part 2 – the Road to
Redemption’, which are appearing monthly on the
TAC web-site. They run
from January 09 and will finish in December 2009 –
hopefully with a happy ending, but only time will tell!
These second set of Diaries detail the return of her son
to be part of the family again, after his exclusion for
over 2 years. William is now drug-free and has been
living with his family since July 2009.
